The future is here everyone. Walmart apparently has a patent on a shopping cart that measures your heart rate, palm temperature, grip force, and walking speed. One could justify this as a preventive measure to make sure no one passes out in the store without anyone noticing.
While the idea is nice, which of the following seems like it would happen first? A bystander taking the appropriate action or a minimum-wage, hyper-vigilante, biometric-monitoring employee calling the appropriate authorities?
If Walmart wants a money making idea for shopping carts, I’m almost 100% certain customers would be more interested in shopping carts that can charge their phones.
Side note: this post has the potential not to age well. Someone send me a reminder when this technology saves someone’s life.
