It seems like new articles are coming out every day suggesting the cancer-causing potential of every product known to mankind. Even everyone’s favorite money-saving snack, Ramen Noodles, have been found to cause cancer. That being said, it comes as no surprise that some people are recommending that you ditch AirPods due to their cancer-causing potential.
Jerry Phillips, a biochemistry professor at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, believes that “their placement in the ear canal exposes tissues in the head to relatively high levels of radio-frequency radiation.”
Let’s take this moment to appreciate the professor’s use of the word “relatively.” If normal headphones sit 10mm away from your ear canal and AirPods sit 1mm from your ear canal, that’s a 90% increase relative increase in proximity. By association, that means you get a 90% increase in radiation exposure. It’s time to put those AirPods away and get some nice headphones instead folks.
