Due to the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, Tim Cook of Apple has announced that they will produce 1 million face shields per week for medical workers. In addition to this act of generosity, the company also donated 20 million N95 masks to governments and hospitals.
The country-wide shortage of PPE has left many healthcare workers vulnerable in the past few months. Many resorted to using garbage bags and a bunch of other random things you can find posted on their Instagrams. You’ll also find a bunch of makeshift PPE posted on Reddit for some sweet, sweet karma. Fortunately, the giant void filled by one of the technology industry’s greatest innovators will go down in history as one of the greatest acts of kindness in 2020.
In other news, Apple announced they’re working on an upgraded N95 mask called the N95+. This is expected to hit retail stores in late 2021 for a price of $999. The face strap is not included and can be purchased separately for $499.
