Zoom hires former Facebook security chief to fight privacy concerns

Zoom Video Communications Inc has recently been in hot water due to privacy concerns over its popular video-conferencing app. Since the height of its popularity in March, the company’s stock (ZM.O) has dropped about 22%.

The app’s security issues have led several states, countries, and high schools have restricted its use. The company failed to provide end-to-end encryption for meeting sessions and also routed traffic through China.

To fight the negative press and return the company’s information assurance mission to its former glory, Zoom has hired former Facebook security chief, Alex Stamos. Apparently Mr. Stamos is “widely regarded as one of the smartest people working in the security space.”

While it may seem ridiculous that a former Facebook employee has been hired to fortify a company’s security measures, Mr. Stamos is a “celebrated figure in privacy and security circles,” per the New York Times.
